The Puna Men’s Chorus has announced the appointment of Ken Reinhardt as the group’s new choral conductor.
Reinhardt has been a PMC singer, section leader (alakai) and soloist for the last two years, and this past season he provided the arrangements for the just-concluded “Aloha Broadway” performances.
He was instrumental in bringing the PMC along from first rehearsals to the final performances — organizing schedules, helping to select soloists and conducting rehearsals. This was facilitated through his service as webmaster for PMC.
In recognition of his many services, Reinhardt was appointed assistant conductor for the season and is now assuming the full range of duties as choral conductor.
Reinhardt brings to his new job a variety of experience: as a woodwind player for the Seattle Youth Symphony, marching in the LSJUMB while a student at Stanford, playing for the Big Apple Corps in New York City and in a NYC swing band “Hot Lavender.”
Reinhardt has sung with the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus and the Missoula (Mont.) Gay Men’s Chorus as well as PMC.
Reinhardt has already started to prepare for PMC’s upcoming 5th anniversary season. Several outreach performances have been planned for the spring, including opening for the Merrie Monarch Festival and the Paradise Roller Girls’ upcoming four bouts.
Men of all voices and experience are welcome to join the group as it proceeds with fulfilling its mission to share the power of music to “inspire, educate and transform ourselves and our world.”
Rehearsals for the coming season will begin in March.
